About The Music-

Steve & Steve Blues Band at Creekside

Hurricane, WV: The band of Bluesmen performed at the Creekside Sports Club on Friday night, June 21. From the first notes of the sound check, people began migrating from the front bar to the back room where the band was warming up. With their eyes glued to the stage area, they moved to the beat and hung on the words. By the middle of the first set, the room was pretty well packed. All seats were occupied and people were standing to hear the Blues. Occasionally during the evening, a couple would dance to the music.

The band played well. It was one of their better shows, musically. The energy the crowd gave them was exhilarating. Steve Criner played his new Hammond XK-1 organ for the first time in a live show. Its tone was beyond awesome, and it added to the band’s overall sound immensely. Steve C. also sang his heart out, and added some tasteful notes on guitar and harmonica.  Steve Farley played some of the hottest licks I have ever heard from him, as he wailed, eyes closed much of the time, and occasionally stepped backward a step, as he often does when the music really overtakes him. Add the very tight rhythm section of drummer Fred Moomaw and bassist Phil Ruby, and a few songs sung by Steve F. and Phil, and you have The Blues, West Virginia style.

It was a great evening.

The band is looking ahead to Wednesday night, June 25, when they will play The Barge on the Kanawha River just above the Patrick Street Bridge on the South side of the river. Then on to St. Albans ’ Riverfest celebration on Friday evening.

This summer promises to be exciting and very busy for the Steve and Steve Blues Band.
